More on Dr. Norman and Dr. Ratna

I went to Monroeville to fetch them on Sunday for a night's stay in Indiana.

We had lunch under the oak tree at my house. Pah cooked kari ikan kap (the fish I caught with En Mahat), ayam masak kicap, jasmine rice, dalca and baby kailans. We also had bazbosa and strawberries for tea afterwards.

Then I sent them to Holiday Inn for their much needed rest from the 4 day expo. That evening, after margrib, I took them out to Walmart to shop for souvenirs. When we got back to the hotel, it was already midnight. At the hotel, Dr. Norman showed me the gold medal

and cert which his exhibit received! Cool!!

The next day, Monday, after breakfast at Holiday Inn,

I took them to State College, mainly to get them closer to Harrisburg and a car rental. We found one in Avis at the College Park Airport. After getting hold of the convertible sebring, brand new and registered just a week earlier, we set off for lunch at the Masala in downtown SC.

The buffet lunch and mango lassi cost just over ten bucks a head.

Really good tasting fare, too! Amin would have been with us if not for Aishah's shots appointment in Bellefonte.

We bade our goodbyes soon after the lunch. I told Dr Norman that he'd do himself a real favor if he does his sabbatical (slated for next year) at Penn State, even if it's at the Harrisburg campus. I had a good time, and I am sure they did, too.

One in Million Chance Meeting!

It had to be one of the most chancy meetings ever. Dr. Norman of the UPM EE Dept, in town for five days, got a name from a directory, called it and asked for all things halal in Monroeville. That person happened to be my tax-preparer, Syed Aqeel, and I bet, I was the only Malaysian Syed knew, and that's why Syed emailed me this fella's predicament, asking if I could help. Syed had, of course, moved to Hershey PA to be with his family.

I called, and my call was returned. Turned out that it was an acquaintance from years gone by. Dr. Ir. Norman was my station leader during my first train trip home from boarding school (MCKK) for the first term vacation in 1973. We were both Taipingites, and in fact, hailed from neighboring kampongs. Him, Kpg. Pinang, and me, Kpg. Jana Baru. Then, I was 13, and he was 16.

So I had to see him! We had lunch today, on his account, at LJS.

And hey, guess what else? Well, when he saw my dad's name, he said he knew where and who, instantly. And when I told him my brother lived in Kpg Pinang, he didn't catch it yet, but when I mentioned Fuad's inlaws name, he said that his eldest sister cared for Fuad's five boys during their harder times. (And Here are the kids all grown up, at Amin's wedding)

OMG. What a small world...

I hope he can make it to lunch at my place this Sunday. The day's open for him and Dr. Ratnasamy, his colleague.

Fire Rainbow

I got this from Dawud in one of his forwards..

-------snip--------

A FIRE RAINBOW
THIS IS A FIRE RAINBOW - THE RAREST OF ALL NATURALLY OCCURING
ATMOSPHERIC PHENOMENA.

THE PICTURE WAS CAPTURED THIS WEEK ON THE IDAHO/WASHINGTON BORDER.
THE EVENT LASTED ABOUT 1 HOUR

CLOUDS HAVE TO BE CIRRUS, AT LEAST 20K FEET IN THE AIR,
WITH JUST THE RIGHT AMOUNT OF ICE CRYSTALS AND THE SUN
HAS TO HIT THE CLOUDS AT PRECISELY 58 DEGREES.

I say its God's handiwork. A very beautiful
sight! Please, pass it along for others to see.
