I have been trying to call home the past few weeks. Today, I tried again, and finally got through. Opah (my mum) answered. That was a relief. Asked her about the weather. She said that it had been dry and hot the past week. That's good -- the sun will dry the floodwaters up, even though Taiping is way up North of Johor. We talked about everyone's health. About my sister who is translating Maths questions into English, about my brothers who didn't call home since last raya, about Batu Pahat's family coming to the US for Aishah's graduation this May, and about my commutes and job, among other things. Opah asked if Hana had received her Bandung Scarf. Not yet, I said, not knowing that Amin would be taking it home a few hours later. Then I asked for Tok Ayah, my dad. He was already in bed, but Opah woke him up. It's just as well.
Asked him about his health, and his dusuns. All good. He said his white van is good, too, after receiving the new engine last month. Except that he had to fix the brakes and the blinkers last week. The other van, the green rusa, is used, but sparingly. Only used for non-dusun trips, especially, with Opah.Asked him if he would consider coming here with the BP family, and he said he would. Told him he, Opah and Adah are all invited. It would be good for Muhsin to meet his gramps for the first time..
