What's the Family upto?!!

It's a few weeks into school and already, the patterns are developing among the kids of 1637.

Let's begin with the eldest unmarried kid, Wasil. He's already the tallest in the house, and not yet fifteen. Plays the artificial pigskin everyday, five days a week, either at practice or in a game. They lost the first one, 6-16. Ah, well, there goes the unbeaten run.

Luqman, that meowing little guy, is next. He used to read my blog, but somehow is sidetracked into something else, like yarning and cartooning "RocMan". He loses his cartoons every other day, and he yarns when he finds his piece, and he is actually doing real good at school. Like getting those top marks, getting into Book Clubs and challenging study groups. So maybe, he'll impress Mr. Halin more than he ever did, any previous teacher. Just stay off those cheese sandwiches, or soon we'll need a winch to haul you up to your bedroom (the stairs can break, you know).

If Hamzah gets his wishes, he won't be in school tomorrow. He is with another sub teacher this year. It's amazing how his class always gets caught in this sub situation. But he spells good, and is cursive-inclined. That's two things getting him out of trouble. And he reads, although not in bulk like Bro Luq. But he has to stop his eyes from twitching. It gets to me..

Hana, the fower goil, loves to speel and is curiously the fastest speller among the three pre-teens. Her first spelling test was a breeze for her. BUt you should really see how she practices! She cuts and glues alphabets onto paper to spell the words. Not for me. I'll just write them out 10 times..

And littlest Muhsin, also the loudest in the house, keeps the bigger guys in check. Snooze, and your toy is his. Snooze again, and it's your Lego-Man in his clutches. He spells Amin backwards and he'll get his password. But only if he can read this bloggy...

Finally, the mummy of them all. Muz, or Pah. A headache here, a fening there; but they are good kids. Keep them well. I'll be home to help..
Hehe...

Back in the Groove

Today is Tuesday, September 12, 2006. Suddenly, I feel that summer is over. I had a summer full of things to do -- the homecoming, the nuptial, the travel, the legal issues -- all finished and done with. I am back with my family, my job, the kids education, my garden... It was a grand summer, and I'll do it again in a jiff, but for now, it's good to be back..in the groove.

Inna Lillah Hi Wa Inna Hi Rajiuun

Mak Lang at Amin's SP wedding (first on the right)

Arwah Mak Lang passed away on Sunday, six a.m. at Taiping Hospital. She was survived by her husband Alang and her thirteen kids. She'd suffered a stroke on Tuesday, in the morning, as Mak and Ayah were alighting from their van at Alang's compund in Jelai. Mak was in time to take control of the situation, but by then, Mak Lang had lost use of her right side, and she couldn't speak, either. Mak said that Mak Lang eyes weren't seeing, even thogh she was conscious. She was due to go for her Haj this year, with Pak Lang, Paksu and Maksu. Now, it's one person less. She got there first...

Mak Lang, to me, was the perfect kampung melayu mum. She did everything, complained nothing, and tirelessly kept up with everything. She offered no excuses. And she had kids. Lots of them. last count was thirteen. I could only relate to 5-6 of the elder ones. The younger ones, I have lost them due to my 17-odd years (total) of US residency.

There was another passing on Monday, 9/11. Zakaria's eldest sister, who resided in Alor Star alongside the mother's new house, passed away due to complications from liver failure. We were notified by Idah that same monday morning I talked to mak about Mak Lang. Moga-moga Allah s.w.t. limpahkan Rahmat Nya ke atas Mak Lang and Kak Ani.

Sept 10 Amin Aishah SC Reception

They called it a banquet. It was more of a gathering of Malaysians at a corner of Waupeulani at State College.

One of the best gatherings I have ever been outside of Carbondale. Thanks to the host, the veritable En Zainal...

Good job by the MASA, and En Zainal, Wati and the kitchen crew. Wati, Pah and the ladies of Penn Towers did most of the cooking prep the night before.

That was the hardest work!
In the morning of the event, the boys (Yeng's crew) did their share, too..

Gave a short speech; not even prepared for one. Thanked Amin's friends for looking after him the past 3-4 years, and wished the couple everlasting peace. The food was next.

Everybody got their share, and Zainal, Wati, me and Pah got to eat by the newlyweds.
Pics with the royal couple...

The cake cutting ceremony was next. After that was a speech by Amin and Aishah. Amin thanked his guests, saying that this was the reception that meant the most to him. He then showcased his siblings, one by one. Aishah just thanked everyone, inviting all to their home anytime. There will be food, she said.
Then it was MASA with new pres Dele taking charge.

They introduced the freshies (10 b, 14 g) minus two who left early for soccer tryouts. Then it was picts session for Raya purposes. It took quite a while for the picts to be finalised.

While waiting, Pah and I with some help from Sarah cleared the kitchen. There were utensils and leftover ingredients to be removed. And after the pics session was concluded, we took the Towers gals back home on our way to Amin's apt.

Amin and the rest arrived half an hour later...and guess what, they had Canyon Pizza.. (not me!)

The Invitation

Sez it all... see y'all tomorrow!

The Subaru!

I guess I have to celebrate my parent's anniversary by doing something memorable... I gave them the RUSA van last month as a present, so that's over. Hmm..maybe I'll buy a car! Better still, my dream car.. a red USED SUBARU! yes, that's it, a used 2001 Subaru. So, after hunting high and low for a budget-priced 4X4, I found the prefect fit at Southtowne Motors. Today, I test-drove the thing, puppydogged it for 45 minutes, and after getting everyone's approval, including Pah's, I told Jeff the salesguy that yes, I'll take it.

I found that it's a one-owner, new car trade from Hanover PA (that's the potato(e) chip place), with only three carfax entries. Its only drawback would be the 111,004 miles on the odo. But they say Subies last twice as long, and the price was right, anyway. So yes, a few scratches here and there., and Jeff said that he'll look into the clock, change the wiper. They also said that they'll check the brakes before I gain full ownership of the Subaru, which would be on Friday next week.

Sure!

Anniversary!

Yes, today, 9/9/06, is my parents anniversary. They were married on this date in 1959. That's what I remembere my dad telling me. Anyway, they are still together after all these years, too. Here's for many more years...
And the van I gave them, for the anniversary..hehe
